A walk on the Stav

Video taken a few weeks ago and put together by PADI Rescue Diver Kris Richardson. THANKS!!

Highlights of the video include OWSI Robert, Rescue Diver Jay, lobster, green moray, spotted moray, horse-eye jacks and of course the Stavronikita. The dive started on the Stav and moved over to Victor’s reef and back.

Well this time we have proof…Manta Ray!!

Absolutely fantastic! Scuba diving off of the Hilton Hotel on the final few yards of Lobster Reef we spotted this lovely 9 ft Manta Ray just before the safety stop. There is video footage hopefully to follow, and this time including the Manta. Thank you for the picture Shane Johnston. Definite picture of the week, let’s make that month.

To Barbados Blue…

So now we’re Rescue Divers
And climbing the PADI scale
We’d like to share some knowledge
Without which you’re likely to fail

For the Gentlemen:
Alcohol and scuba do not mix
It results in irresponsible behaviour,
And there’s something about compressed air
That gives rum a peculiar flavour

For the Ladies:
If your buddy is also your partner,
And he’s dangerously low on air,
Consider your insurance options
And negotiate from there

For the Gentlemen:
If you have to wee in your wetsuit,
Remove your boots with great care,
Because contrary to all expectation
It will have accumulated there.

For the Ladies:
NEVER pass wind in your wetsuit,
For the bubbles expand as you rise,
And by the time you’ve reached the surface
Your backside will have doubled in size.

But most important: find a great team,
Who’ll teach you everything that they know.
Hand over all of your money,
Buddy up, and you’re ready to go.

PAWARE Coral Watch

A new year has started so here we go, time to set a new schedule for the PADI Project AWARE Coral Watch. These dives are completed in Carlisle Bay Marine Park and help to monitor the status of the Barbados corals with respect to bleaching (colour loss due to a loss of the symbiont zooxanthellae within the coral tissue). Dives take place during our pre-arranged Bay dive at 2 pm. Data from this dive is sent to the coral watch database to assist with the global monitoring of coral health. If you are interested in being a part of this effort please c ontact us with your travel schedule. Divers should be certified, recently in the water and demonstrate good buoyancy to participate.

Angie and Robert are seen on the first dive then Christie leading a night dive. Shots of wreck penetration in Carlisle Bay Marine Park followed by some still shots of staff and visitors around Barbados Blue. Our dive boat Melissa II is seen in many shots (pre-upgrade) and our confined water training facility is shown briefly in one of the still shots near the end of the video.
